KSPCA
What KSPCA-Mombasa does,
its Vision and Mission
KSPCA (Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals) is the only domestic animal charitable organization in Kenya and has been in existence since early 1900’s.
It is the oldest Society in Kenya but does not get any funding from the government. We rely on well-wishers and donors who care about the welfare of animals.
Here is what KSPCA does:
- Admit abandoned / injured animals in our shelters
- Teaching Animal Welfare Education in schools
- Re-home animals
- Supervise the humane slaughter of animals in slaughter houses
- Rabies-, spay and save campaigns
- Neutering dogs and cats
- Treating of animals, which come under our care.
- Confiscate animals and prosecute people who mistreat animals
- supervise the loading of ships (camels, cows)
KSPCA Vision Statement:
KSPCA is an organization whose aim is to promote the protection of all animals; to prevent cruelty to them and relieve animals from all manners of suffering.
KSPCA Mission Statement:
- To uphold the Laws of Kenya, specifically the prevention of cruelty to animals Act.
- To provide a safe and healthy shelter for animals that are awaiting re-homing. Provide medical treatment when necessary and the humane destruction of any animal that is suffering.
- Neutering of all female dogs and cats of both sexes that come under our care.
- To run ‘Spay and Save’ campaigns and educate people on the importance of sterilization.
- Hold rural clinics countrywide and educate the communities on importance of vaccination programms and de-worming of their animals as well as promote awareness about general health and care of animals.
- Assist local authorities in animal welfare policies
- Ensure humane slaughter is carried-out and to carry out regular inspections of slaughterhouses.
- To maintain detailed records on all animals in our care; to make random ‘home visits’ to check on the well being of animals that have been adopted and to contact owners of young animals so that the animals can be brought to the clinic for sterilization.
